Best Breakfast in Jaco: A Healthy Start Before the Surf

In a surf town, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Whether you’re paddling out at dawn, heading to a canopy tour or just walking the beach, a good breakfast in Jaco sets the tone. Here’s how to do it right.

Go local with gallo pinto

Costa Rica’s national breakfast is gallo pinto — rice and beans cooked together with onion, sweet pepper and cilantro — served with eggs, fresh cheese, sweet plantain and toast. It’s filling, balanced and exactly what you want before a long session. At Mundaka try the Hermosa (named after the beach just south of Jacó), the Roca Bruja with carne en salsa, or the loaded Roca Loca.

Keep it light with fruit and yogurt

Prefer something fresh? The Pavones is yogurt with strawberries, banana and granola, and G-Land is avocado toast with turkey ham, egg and a fruit bowl.

Eggs your way

Omelette lovers can pick the vegetarian Guethary (spinach, tomato, onion, basil and cheese) or the ham-and-cheese Supertubos. Bacon fans: the Cloudbreak is scrambled eggs, bacon, tomato and toast.

Coffee or juice included

Every Mundaka breakfast includes a coffee or a freshly squeezed orange juice — and we serve breakfast from 7:00 AM until 2:30 PM, every day, so there’s no rush after a dawn patrol.
